  1. General Overview: The members of the academy are equipped with the requisite programmes that are designed for them to have knowledge and skills on child protection and safeguarding vulnerable children and adults in accordance with international best practices. There are various programmes designed and opportunities for people with various backgrounds to learn at their own pace to becoming certified, and finally inducted.
  2. Levels of Membership: There are 5 levels of individual members with varying criteria for admission into each one. See individual members page for eligibility and benefits for each route to membership.
  3. The corporate members are made up of schools(Nursery, Primary, Secondary), HEIs, hospitals or any other organisation where vulnerable people are.

Individual Membership

Student Member:

A student member is a registered member who:

  1. Has obtained SSCE/GCE/A Level Certificate or is currently studying in any institution of higher learning.

  2. Must submit not more than 750 words Personal Statement on why desiring to join the Safeguarding Academy.

Associate fellow

Associate Fellow must be:

  1. A graduate from any discipline and has passed all prescribed Safeguarding Examinations of the Academy.
  2. A student member who has passed all the Safeguarding Examinations and inducted as an Associate of the Academy of Safeguarding.

Honorary Fellow

An Honorary Fellow is a member who has supported and contributed immensely to the growth of the Academy, Child Protection and Safeguarding and Education sector in general. Members in this category are carefully selected and conferred with Honorary Fellowship by favourable vote of the Governing Council members.

Fellow

A Fellow is a member who:

  1. Is a graduate from any discipline with at least of 10 years relevant experience on a Managerial position within Education, Health and Social Care or allied sector where vulnerable people could be found.
  2. Must meet the conditions of Associate Entry.
  3. Who has passed all academy’s safeguarding examinations to becoming a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  4. Must satisfy all other criteria as may be specified by the Governing Council from time to time.

Senior Fellow:

A Senior Fellowship is a member who:

  1. Is a graduate from any discipline with at least of 15 years relevant experience on a Managerial position within Education, Health and Social Care or allied sector where vulnerable people could be found.
  2. Has been a Fellow member for a period of ten (5) years.
  3. Must satisfy all other criteria as may be specified by the Governing Council from time to time.

CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP

An organisation becomes a corporate member if it:

Satisfies the Academy of Safeguarding Council that he is eligible to be so registered; and satisfies all other criteria as may be specified by the Council from time to time.

A member or a corporate member of the academy shall be entitled to receive from the council, a letter of registration of membership for the category of membership.

All corporate members shall cause their staffs to register with the Academy to ethical standards of professionalism and self-regulation in the Safeguarding and Child Protection practices.

Our Corporate members are:

Schools- Pre-Schools, Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Post-Secondary institutions/higher educational institutions.

Social Care Settings such as Day Care Centres, Child Minders Centres, Adult Care Centres,

Healthcare Settings such as clinics and hospitals

RENEWAL OF MEMBERSHIP

All members MUST attend at least 1 conference and complete at least 2 CPDs in a year to remain compliant with their membership. Notices/reminders shall be sent out to all members’ contacts. It’s members responsibilities to inform the Registrar of any change in their emails and phone numbers.
